THRESHERMEN'S BREAKFAST
at the Feed Bin
in Threshermen's Park

Workers enjoying the Threshermen's Breakfast at the James Valley Threshers Show
Workers at the Show taking a break at the Feed Bin

Getting the Show Grounds ready each of the three days of the Threshing Show takes some early morning hours of work by our volunteers and exhibitors. When the Feed Bin was first open for serving meals, the ladies of the James Valley Threshing Association would serve breakfast for the hungry workers. They often starting coffee at 6:00 am every morning and then served breakfast by 7:00 am. It was these early morning breakfasts for the Threshermen working at the Show that gave rise to the traditional Threshermen's Breakfast which is open to showgoers from 7:00 to 9:00 every morning of the show.

As years went by, the JVT ladies developed more activities to do at the show. The Toy Chest opened, a Heritage Craft Building with activities started, and then we opened a General Store for souvenirs to be sold. With all the activities, the ladies thought it was time to allow other groups to come in and raise money for their own organizations, one meal at a time. Groups that served breakfast in the Feed Bin include the Groton Lions Club on Saturday morning, the Groton Chamber served Sunday breakfast, and the James Valley Threshing ladies still serve the Threshermen's Breakfast on Friday.

Friday morning breakfast ladies Ilene, Lynette and Donna

The Threshermen's Breakfast menu includes all the delicious home cooked foods you'd expect to be served to hungry workers - eggs, bacon and sausage, hash browns, breakfast breads and baked goods of many kinds, and of course lots of coffee. And the price is always kept as low as possible, so it's a real bargain even for folks with the heartiest appetites!

Even with the low prices, the groups serving Threshermen's breakfasts still manage to raise money for their organizations. So showgoers benefit twice - a generous home cooked breakfast, and knowing that they are lending a helping hand to some worthy causes.

Next time you're at the Show, come on in to the Feed Bin in Threshermen's Park in the morning, join the workers who have done the hard work of readying everything for the Show, and treat yourself to the original Threshermen's Breakfast. It's available from 7:00 to 9:00 in the morning or later, until the food runs out. You'll love it.
