LAZY FARMERS 4-H CLUB
Ham Dinner at the Threshers Feed Bin

Lazy Farmers 4H Club members

The Lazy Farmer's 4-H Club is known for the ham dinner they serve on Saturday at noon in the Feed Bin at the James Valley Threshing show. They prepare and serve grilled ham with scalloped potatoes, corn, dinner rolls and pie, and extras too. It's a bountiful feast that's been enjoyed by showgoers at every show over the past fifteen years at the Threshing Bee.

The members have learned so much in the process. They start participating in the Show when they join the Club, which is about the age of 8, and continue every year until they graduate. The funds they raise from the dinners provide scholarships for graduating members who continue their education after high school.

4H Club members get to share in the memories of how things were done a long time ago. One of the most important lessons is community involvement. They have given back with monetary donations for the ground's improvements. Their donations in recent years have provided a pair of wooden benches, and new walls in the Feed Bin dining room.

Everyone in the 4-H Club pitches in to prepare and serve the ham dinner in the Feed Bin

4-H Club member Lowell describes the experience: "The Threshing Bee has always been a busy and fun time! I really enjoy the sounds and the smells. Funny how the smell of burning coal leaves you with pleasant memories. It is also fun to relive how farming used to be with all the hard work and camaraderie."

And Maddie reports, "The Threshing Bee has always been a great time. I enjoy interacting with all of the great people that attend. They are appreciative of everything my 4-H club does, and they are very supportive. It is one of my favorite 4-H activities we do throughout the year."
